FAQs

1. What types of pregnancy ultrasound scans do you offer?

We offer 2D, 3D, and 4D scans. You can also add HD live to any of these options for enhanced image quality.

2. Can you explain the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD Live scans?

• 2D scans : These are the standard black and white images you might see at the hospital. They show length and width (two dimensions).
• 3D scans : These create a three-dimensional model of the baby, often with a golden appearance.
• 4D scans : This is a moving 3D image, like a short video clip of your baby.
• HD and HD Live : These are upgrades to 3D and 4D imaging, respectively. They use advanced technology to provide clearer images with more detail, like skin tones and shadows.

3. Are 3D/4D scans safe?

Ultrasounds have been used safely for over 40 years with no known risks. For the latest information, you can refer to the Fetal Medicine Foundation and the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society (BMUS).

4. When is the best time to get a 3D/4D scan?

You can have a 3D/4D scan anytime during your pregnancy, starting from 14 weeks. However, the best pictures are usually between 26 and 30 weeks. Other factors like baby's position, amniotic fluid amount, and your BMI can also affect image quality. Scans outside this timeframe can still yield good results.
• We recommend scheduling your scan at 26 weeks for twins.
• If your placenta is located at the front (anterior placenta), come before 27 weeks for better image clarity.

5. How early can I get an early scan?

You should be at least 7 weeks pregnant for an early scan to see the fetal heartbeat.

6. When can I find out the baby's gender?

Gender scans can be performed with high accuracy starting at 15 weeks. If the baby's position isn't ideal for viewing the gender, you can reschedule the scan for free. You can also choose to receive the gender results in a sealed envelope.

7. Is there an extra charge for twins?

To ensure a thorough and efficient appointment for you and your multiples, we kindly recommend booking a 30-minute slot instead of the standard time. This allows us to provide the personalized care you deserve. Please be aware that a £10 surcharge applies to these extended twin appointments.

8. Can I buy additional items during my visit?

Yes, we offer various gifts and keepsakes you can purchase during your appointment, such as heartbeat bears and gender reveal items.

9. Who can come to my scan appointment with me?

Unlike NHS scans, our private scans allow you to bring guests. Up to five people, including children, are welcome. However, all children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

10. Does the baby's position affect the 4D scan?

The ideal position for a 4D scan is for the baby to be facing upwards. We will use various techniques to encourage movement and get the baby into this position, such as having you walk briefly, drink something cold or fizzy, or eat a small snack.
• If the baby isn't moving during the first scan, we will reschedule your scan for free to try again.

11. What happens if an abnormality is found during the scan?

If a potential abnormality is found, the sonographer will discuss it with you after the scan. They will also create a report with a referral to your midwife, GP, or obstetrician for further evaluation.

12. Do I need a full bladder for the scan?

A full bladder is required for dating scans and gender scans to help visualize the baby.
For later scans like 4D scans, coming to the clinic well-hydrated with a comfortably full bladder can sometimes improve image quality.

13. What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your maternity notes and photo ID.

14. Who performs the scans?

All scans are performed by fully qualified and registered sonographers.

15. How far in advance should I book my appointment?

We recommend booking at least 7 days in advance for optimal scheduling. However, we can also accommodate same-day appointments if needed.

16. What is your cancellation policy?

We have a no-refund policy for cancellations. However, we will do our best to reschedule your appointment if needed.
